The Mentors
About
Dr. Chilufya-Scalessa is a wife, mom, teacher, scientist, and mentor. She strives to use inclusive and active learning approaches in her teaching and mentoring, partnering with fellow educators, students, mentors, and mentees to create a supportive, enjoyable, and impactful learning journey in academics, science, careers, and beyond. Her impactful teaching has been recognized by prestigious honors, notably the K. Patricia Cross Future Leaders Award in Higher Education from the American Association of Colleges and Universities, and the Plant BLOOME Teaching Grant from the American Society of Plant Biologists.
Further, she is the founder of J&S Mentoring Network LLC, USA, and co-founder of JUSENIOR Mentoring Institute, Zambia, SAJ Life Mentors and Coaches, and Moms and Kids Mentoring Network where they collectively provide academic, professional, and personal support to all individuals, including those historically underserved.

Dr. Chilufya is also dedicated to helping and supporting students and mentees to pursue and persist in science and research. She does so by developing and teaching hands-on science learning opportunities in the laboratory and mainstream courses. Her research focuses are:

Location
Dr. Chilufya-Scalessa lives in Massachusetts with her husband and two daughters. Away from teaching and mentoring, she enjoys quality and fun time with family and friends. She loves to cook, dance, swim, and watch TV shows.
